I have not been paying attention to BusyCal developments these days (why would I? I just use the software.) I was surprised today when my copy of BusyCal 2 popped up a warning that Google syncing was going to change and that I needed to move to BC3 if I wanted it to continue to work.
Fortunately BusyMac offers fairly reasonable upgrade pricing, but as I understand things, to take advantage of the upgrade pricing I will need to purchase BC3 directly from BusyMac rather than through the Mac App Store. The thing is I LIKE making purchases through the Mac App Store - the convenience of doing so is very valuable to me. Purchasing BC3 in the Canadian Mac App store looks like it will cost me $70, even after already purchasing BC1 and BC2. I suppose I could migrate our calendars away from Google and over to iCloud and keep using BC2, or I could give up on BC and use Apple's Calendar.app, or I could leave the App store and buy directly from BusyMac - each having tradeoffs between cost, convenience, and effort.
What I most want is to get the upgrade pricing on the Mac App Store, but as I do a web search for 'mac app store upgrade pricing' I learn that Apple does not have a mechanism for this type of thing, though it has been long requested by developers and users. But then I can across https://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/app-store-upgrades-masquerade-as-app-store-bundles which talks about how some developers have sold 'bundles' of their software which include copies of their 'old' versions and that allows them to give discounts to people who already have purchased the old versions. If BC2 sells for $50 and BC3 sells for $50, you could offer a bundle of BC1 and BC2 for $80, resulting in those who already have BC1 only getting charged an extra $30 - an effective discount matching the one offered by the BusyMac website. (There are complications for people who might have paid less than $50 for BC1 due to promotions or things like that that makes this an imperfect method in some cases).
Might this be something that BusyMac could do? Bundle up multiple version of BusyCal and your old loyal customers can get a discount - maybe it would also be useful for people who want to run older versions of BusyCal on machines that cannot run recent versions? Maybe a bundle including BusyContacts would also make sense?
Perhaps this 'bundle' method is unworkable for BusyCal. I see that other apps have used 'in-app purchases' to get the same 'upgrade discount pricing' for purchasers of previous versions - but I can see how this added complication might be something that BusyMac wants to avoid.

Anyhow, if there is any way to buy BC3 via the Mac App Store with upgrade pricing, please let me know.
